You start and stop recording in the desktop app, from the menu bar or tray or from its Recordings page. What you do while recording is on is split into one recording per task, and each recording belongs to the device that captured it. Document libraries write documents from them.
There is no pause. Stopping recording is how you pause, and while recording is off nothing is captured. On Team and Enterprise, recording rules can start and stop recording for you based on the app, the window title or the time of day, and Enterprise workspaces can make a rule required.
What is captured
While recording is on, the desktop app captures clicks, typed text, copy and paste, selected text, app and window names and small captures of parts of the screen.
It never captures passwords, card numbers, API keys or the webcam. The microphone is used only while you hold the talk button to answer a question.
Sensitive values are stripped on your device before anything is uploaded, and the servers run a second check when recordings arrive. Email addresses are masked (h*@acme.com), not removed.
The Steps timeline
A recording is text. Its Steps timeline lists everything that happened as numbered readable sentences. There is no video and no playback.
Questions
When a recording holds a decision the steps cannot explain, FusedFrames asks a question. Answer by typing, or hold the talk button and speak; press Escape to skip the question for good. Answers attach to the recording and are written into documents. Every recording carries a question status: Answered, Partly answered, Not answered or No questions.
Upload and sync
Recordings upload in the background and are processed in the cloud, which uses AI credit. If an upload fails or the machine is offline, recordings wait on the device and retry, so nothing is lost. Recording pauses on its own while you are offline and when the machine sleeps or locks, and picks back up after.
Private to the device
A recording is private to its device by default, and the desktop app only ever shows that device's own recordings. On Team and Enterprise you can share a recording to the workspace. Sharing is one way: it cannot be undone, and a shared recording can no longer be deleted from the desktop app.
Deleting recordings
Deleting is manual and permanent, and removes the recording everywhere it was stored. There is no retention setting and no automatic expiry: recordings are kept until you delete them, and deleting a device deletes its recordings with it.
